The shorter the list, the less you have to look up.

What zinc is officially recognized for

The EU has authorized health claims for zinc (Regulation (EU) No. 432/2012). These claims may be used if a product provides at least 15 mg of the reference intake per daily serving, which for zinc is 1.5 mg or more. The authorized wording is as follows:

Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Zinc helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails.

Zinc contributes to normal DNA synthesis and normal protein synthesis.

Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function.

Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood.

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal vision.

Zinc plays a role in cell division.

What is not covered: „"Increases testosterone levels." Only the following is approved: conservation a normal mirror. Anything beyond that is baseless advertising.

How it is taken

The usual dosage is one capsule daily with a meal. Some people don't tolerate zinc well on an empty stomach. Zinc and iron use the same absorption pathways and can interfere with each other: a few hours' interval is sufficient. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) recommends a maximum of 6.5 mg of zinc per day from dietary supplements; the upper limit for total daily intake from all sources is 25 mg. Keep an eye on any additional intake from multivitamins or supplements.

Knowledge, figures, research

Why the compound determines absorption, which combinations of minerals help and which inhibit it.

To the nutrient atlas →

Good to know

Zinc can upset the stomach when taken on an empty stomach.
