This makes coconut oil heat-stable for frying and popular during fasting. However, it remains a saturated fat, one among several, not the only one.

Folk medicine, tradition, research

What tropical cuisine and Ayurveda use coconut oil for, what makes medium-chain fatty acids special, and what research says.

View the portrait in the Botanical Archive →

Here's how to use it

Use for frying and baking up to about 180 degrees Celsius, in curries and golden milk, a teaspoon in coffee. Externally as a body oil, hair treatment, and lip balm. Solid at room temperature, liquid above 25 degrees Celsius, this is normal. Virgin oil tastes of coconut, refined oil does not.

Good to know

Coconut oil is not a miracle cure for cholesterol or dementia, even though this is often claimed. The research is mixed.

It's fine as one of several fats, but not as the only one: olive oil, rapeseed oil and linseed oil remain important.

Use with caution on acne-prone skin, as coconut oil can clog pores.

As always, remember: a spice or herb is part of good food, not a medicine or medical advice. If you have any health concerns, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are taking regular medication, it's a good idea to consult your doctor beforehand.

[83

post-8634","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-oele-tinkturen","first","instock","shipping-taxable","product-type-simple
["GET
