Salmon oil for dogs & cats

Available soon

Omega-3 from wild salmon for dogs and cats.

Category:

Cold-pressed salmon oil as a supplementary feed for dogs and cats, rich in EPA and DHA.

At a glance

  • What it is: Salmon oil, cold-pressed, without additives
  • Includes: Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, Omega-6, Vitamin E as protection against rancidity
  • For: Dogs and cats, especially during shedding season and in old age
  • Tradition: Fish oil has always been part of the feed for sled dogs and fishing cats.
Why your body is aware of this issue: Dry food provides a lot of omega-6 and little omega-3, the same imbalance as in our own diet. EPA and DHA from salmon oil compensate for this. Unlike flaxseed oil, salmon oil delivers the active forms directly, and cats can hardly convert plant-based omega-3 anyway.

Here's how to use it

As a guideline, add about one milliliter per five kilograms of body weight per day to the food; for cats, half a teaspoon to one teaspoon. Start slowly. Once opened, store in the refrigerator and use within six to eight weeks. If it smells strong or rancid, discard it.

Good to know

  • In cases of pancreatitis, fat indigestion, or blood clotting problems, consult a veterinarian beforehand.
  • Too much oil causes diarrhea: start with half the amount.
  • Rancid oil does more harm than good. Buy small bottles.

As always, supplementary feed is not a substitute for a balanced diet or veterinary care. Consult your veterinarian beforehand if your pet is ill, pregnant, or on long-term medication.
