Naturally prevent colds and flu

A flu-like infection is usually harmless, but annoying. Those who are frequently susceptible often have a weakened immune system over time – due to stress, lack of sleep, or nutritional deficiencies. Certain plant compounds and micronutrients have shown a real, measurable effect in studies.

So verteidigt dein Immunsystem die Atemwege

The mucous membranes of the nose and throat are the first line of defense against cold and flu viruses. Tiny cilia constantly transport mucus, along with any trapped pathogens, outwards, while specialized immune cells patrol the mucous membrane. If a virus does manage to penetrate, the innate immune system immediately springs into action: It releases messenger substances (cytokines) that trigger fever, fatigue, and body aches – unpleasant but useful signals that mobilize the body to fight the pathogen.

Simultaneously, the acquired immune system is activated: B cells begin to produce specific antibodies against the pathogen, while T cells assist in the targeted fight against infected cells. This process takes several days – explaining why symptoms typically only subside significantly after the initial infection has cleared. How well and quickly this defense chain functions depends heavily on the overall state of the immune system.

The next section explains why some people are more susceptible to infections than others and what weakens the immune system.

Why some people become more susceptible

Frequent colds rarely occur by chance: Chronic stress, persistent sleep deprivation, and a body insufficiently supplied with zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D over months gradually weaken the immune system. Breaking this pattern in the long term—more sleep, less chronic stress, and a nutrient-rich basic diet—significantly reduces susceptibility, not just in acute cases.

Elderberry - well studied

Elderberry has shown antiviral and antibacterial effects in laboratory tests. In a placebo-controlled study, taking 15 ml of elderberry syrup four times a day for 5 days alleviated flu symptoms on average 4 days earlier than a placebo.

Zinc in acute cases

Becomes zinc Taken within 24 hours of the first symptoms, it can shorten the duration of a cold. Studies have shown that zinc lozenges with a daily dose of 75 mg or more reduced the duration of illness by an average of approximately 33 days.
