Available soonActivated charcoal made from coconut shells in capsules, highly porous with a large internal surface area.
At a glance
- What it is: Pure carbon from charred coconut shells, activated by steam
- Special feature: One gram has an internal surface area of several hundred square meters.
- Permitted statement: Activated charcoal contributes to the reduction of excessive flatulence after eating (EFSA, from 1 g half an hour before and 1 g shortly after the meal)
- Tradition: Used since antiquity for poisonings, today in every emergency room as medicinal charcoal
Here's how to use it
For bloating after eating: take one gram half an hour before and one gram shortly after the meal, with plenty of water. Use as a short course for a few days, not continuously. Leave at least two hours between taking this product and all other medications, including birth control pills.
Good to know
- Activated charcoal also binds medications, vitamins and minerals: never take them at the same time, leave at least two hours between doses.
- Black stools are normal. Constipation can occur, so drink plenty of fluids.
- Do not treat diarrhea with fever, blood in the stool or suspected poisoning yourself, but go to the emergency room.
As always, dietary supplements are a supplement, not a substitute for good food and not a substitute for medical advice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have children, pre-existing medical conditions, or are taking long-term medication, it is advisable to consult your doctor beforehand.
