nettle cloth
Fabric was woven from its stem fibers as early as the Bronze Age. During the First World War, millions of meters of uniform cloth were produced from it in Germany.
Milarepa
According to legend, the Tibetan yogi Milarepa ate nothing but nettle soup for years until he himself turned green.
The ritual
In spring, when supplies ran low, it was served as soup and spinach. Briefly blanched or rolled, it no longer burns.

As a tea: two teaspoons to 250 ml of hot water, steep for 10 minutes, two to three cups a day, with plenty of water. As a course of treatment, two to four weeks in spring. In the kitchen, use like spinach, crumbled into soups, smoothies, and bread dough.
Good to know
- If you have heart or kidney failure with water retention, consult your doctor beforehand; this also applies if you are taking diuretics.
- Wear gloves when harvesting if you have a known allergy to stinging nettles or very sensitive skin.
As always, remember: a spice or herb is part of good food, not a medicine or medical advice. If you have any health concerns, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are taking regular medication, it's a good idea to consult your doctor beforehand.
