Natural vitamin C from the acerola cherry.
Vitamin C from acerola
Available at Nature HeartWhat tradition tells us about the acerola
Barbados cherry
The small red fruit originates from the Caribbean and tropical America. Hence its names Barbados cherry and West Indian cherry.
Malpighi's name
The genus Malpighia honors the 17th-century Italian naturalist Marcello Malpighi. Today, Brazil is the most important country for its cultivation.
The ritual
It only stays fresh for a few days, which is why it comes to us as juice or powder. Because it's very sour, it's diluted with water or stirred into muesli while cold.

Vitamin C from the acerola cherry: one of the world's richest fruits in vitamin C, as a gently dried fruit extract.
At a glance
- Material: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), here from fruit extract
- Source: Acerola cherry (Malpighia emarginata), South America/Caribbean
- Reference value (NRV): 80 mg per day
- Things to consider when comparing: The line item "of which vitamin C" – the extract percentage alone says nothing about the amount of vitamin C.
What's inside
Acerola fruit extract, standardized to a specific vitamin C content. The label indicates the amount of vitamin C per daily serving. Good products do not contain unnecessary fillers or colorings.
What is not covered: „It claims to "shorten colds" or "protect against infections." It is only permitted to support the normal function of the immune system, nothing more.
How it is taken
Vitamin C is water-soluble: what the body doesn't need, it excretes. Several small portions throughout the day are therefore more beneficial than one large one. Taking it with a meal is generally well-tolerated. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment recommends a maximum daily intake of 250 mg for supplements; more than that offers no proven additional benefit.

Good to know
- Very high doses (from about one gram) can have a laxative effect and upset the stomach.
- If you are prone to kidney stones, consult a doctor beforehand: Vitamin C is broken down into oxalate.
- Vitamin C increases iron absorption. In cases of hemochromatosis (iron overload disease), this combination should be managed by a doctor.
- Not suitable for pets. We have our animal health section for that.
As always, dietary supplements are a supplement, not a substitute for good food and not a substitute for medical advice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have children, pre-existing medical conditions, or are taking long-term medication, it is advisable to consult your doctor beforehand.
